About the Job:
The Community Director is a key role in building the strategy for and executing on the
management and engagement of our ecosystem and network of key audiences that help our team
reach our mission.
Key audiences include local practitioners on the ground, mentors and technical advisors, alumni of our programs, funders and scaling partners (thought leaders, pipeline organizations, peer organizations, entrepreneur support organizations).
As the Common Future team launches new initiatives that build inclusive economies, the Community Director will have
the unique opportunity to play a key, cross-functional role across our teams in helping to source,
include and engage the right participants
Position Responsibilities
● Strategy (15-20%)
○ With the VP of Portfolio Strategy, design an ecosystem management and
engagement strategy that helps us build, fund and influence new initiatives that
build inclusive economies across the Common Future team.
● Manage, execute & engage (55-65%)
○ Source specific partners (e.g. a technical expert in community owned real estate, a
panelist to speak on types of capital to raise as a for-profit social enterprise, a
facilitator with expertise in equity etc/) for the Common Future team
○ Proactively, effectively and powerfully steward relationships with our existing
ecosystem – includes managing inbound partnership or connection requests and
maintaining communications and relationships with our existing partners
(including a monthly newsletter). Along with external relationships, foster
relationships internally with the Common Future team to unify and connect
various stakeholders.
○ Working with our Knowledge Management team, keep apprised of what’s
happening in the racial and economic justice field to spot trends, have a sense of
who’s doing what, spotting underrecognized ideas where Common Future can
connect the dots, and recommending who (practitioners, mentors, funders, thought
leaders) we should be connecting with.
○ Design and execute external facing engagement events (often virtual and in
collaboration with other teams). This may include designing, organizing logistics
and facilitating events to glean insights, build potential partnerships and co-create
future opportunities.
● Systems (20-25%)
○ With our Systems Operations team, co-design and oversee the development of
new tools and systems to enable better partner-matching, communications, data
collection / feedback processes that need to be built and refined. Act as a
centralized hub for multi-touch point relationships across the wider team.
Desired Qualifications
● Self-led leader with the experience and confidence to both design and execute on
strategy. Discerns when to iterate or problem solve, gleans learnings and takeaways while
building, experienced in making real-time adjustments, able to multi-manage from strategy
to execution. Thrives as an independent contributor with the ability to tackle projects
without much guidance / structure or support from a direct report.
● Seasoned networker and dot-connector. Is an above and beyond relationship cultivator,
